1. BURNT WELL GUEST RANCH (Working Cattle & Sheep Ranch)

“Kim & Patricia are excellent hosts and had spent considerable time and effort into ensuring everyone was on the right horse for their ability. Their horses aren’t nags but are clever, sure-footed, forward-going thinkers. The food was excellent, both at the ranch and on the trail. I’d definitely recommend the Chissum Drive and can’t wait to visit Burnt Well again.” Posted June 2007 from guests visiting May 2007

Burnt Well Guest Ranch is a small, family-owned and operated ranch in the warm, sunny climate of New Mexico, 16 miles from the nearest highway, 35 miles from the nearest town, with three generations living on the ranch. This is not a dude ranch but an actual working cattle and sheep ranch. Kim and Patricia may be new to the guest ranch business, but are no strangers to entertaining people. They have a special passion for strengthening the family and want to provide a place where families from grandparents down to the smallest of children can get away from the high-tech, fast-paced life, so many have found themselves in. This is a small, family run ranch. Their objective is to provide a limited number of guests with the time and the place to slow down from the fast pace of modern life and to share in the experience in one of the last remaining strongholds of their western heritage. Situated west of the Continental Divide, the ranch is located in a truly unspoiled setting, secluded and serene. They are off the power grid; electricity comes from solar arrays supplemented by generators as necessary. Cell phone coverage stops 70 miles away; your stay will be undisturbed. Their water comes from stream fed wells and the taste is spectacular. The cabin accommodation is modest and comfortable, with fully equipped private baths, covered porches, fireplaces. This is not nose to tail riding but a real western adventure. You won't find better riding anywhere! They have very gentle, trustworthy horses that allow children and adults alike to build confidence in their riding skills and enjoy the magnificent scenery here on horseback. The ranch have their own "rodeos" and can teach you to twirl and throw a lariat rope. Other activities that our guests enjoy are: big campfires at night with s' mores and some fantastic stargazing, barbecues, mountain biking, great fishing in our lakes and rivers, outdoor and indoor games, poker rides, treasure hunts, photography, horseback riding lessons or just reading a good book . Back country pack trips are usually two days/one night and are taken during a regular stay at the ranch. The ranch offer overnight packtrips for an additional $100 per person which is paid direct to them. |
