They are nowregarded as offering British Columbia’s finest rafting experience. They offer one day trips from Chilliwack, an hour east of Vancouver and also on the Thompson River starting from Lytton.  Below you will find full details of Hyak’s brilliant six day –one and two day river trip out of Vancouver that only runs in the summer Your six day trip includes Saturday night accommodation in Vancouver, charter flight from Vancouver to Chilko Lake, camping equipment and return transport to Vancouver.  At camp, collapsible chairs & camping equipment, including a sleeping bags, are provided.  Each night you can enjoy a shower before dining on gourmet meals while enjoying quality wines.

ONE DAY TRIP DETAILS:The one day trips include 4.5 hours of rafting on the river, a riverside buffet lunch, all necessary rafting equipment and changing facilities with hot showers.Located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, the fast paced Chilliwack River offers exciting rafting from May through to July. The Thompson is B.C.'s most popular river trip and for good reason, the river combines powerful rapids with deep quiet canyons and the warm desert climate of B.C.'s interior. The river grows more and more active with the last two hours of your adventure, providing 19 major rapids. The Thompson trips operate from July to September 2009.

Saturday night’s pre trip meeting:Saturday night at 8:00pm you meet in the Airport Hotel.  You will go over any last minute questions and be given your dry bags for the trip

 Day 1:  Sunday

The flight leaves Vancouver airport from the south terminal –Avitat building at 8:00am.  Beginning with a flight over Howe Sound and Whistler, then over the 10,000 ft high Pemberton Icefields.  Huge glaciers fill the valleys, while Mount Waddington, BC’s highest peak can be seen off to the left. The plane lands at Chilko Lake where guides and rigged rafts are waiting. Fishing licenses may be purchased at the Chilko Lake Lodge before push off. Sunday morning is spent gently moving down the upper stretches of the Chilko River. In the afternoon, the swift current and gentle rapids moves you faster towards the meadow camp in the pine forest. A gourmet meal follows.

Day 2: Monday

Here you go - today it’s whitewater!  This morning you go over paddling and safety instructions as world-renowned Lava Canyon (class V), the longest and most continuous rapids section of the journey, is just around the corner.  The next two hours are spent running the “White Mile”, “May Tag” and twelve miles of virtually unending whitewater.  You descend over 1000 vertical feet as the river drops through lava rock formations and pine forests.  After Lava Canyon, the river doubles in size as the Taseko River rejoins the Chilko.  You then run the dramatic “GAP” at Siwash Bridge where the river squeezes through a twenty-foot hole cut in the lava flow.

Today you join the Chilcotin River  passing through areas that are home to many ospreys and bald eagles.  Now’s your chance to try an inflatable kayak as this section affords many playful class II and III rapids.  Tonight you camp on the bluff at the top of Gooseneck Canyon.  After a short hike, you can investigate bat caves or watch the locals dip-net for salmon.

Day 4: Wednesday

The day begins when you enter the 5-mile long Gooseneck rapids, great in either a raft or kayak. The densely forested landscape slowly begins to transform into dry desert.  An early arrival at camp for a hot lunch allows plenty of time to climb nearby Dome Mountain for a remarkable panoramic view, fish for trout in Big Creek, or wander with a camera through the beautiful setting. The evening is capped off by a starlit sky and maybe a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Day 5: Thursday

Now you head for the challenge of the largest rapids so far.  The one-mile long Big Creek rapids provide an instant eye opener.The Chilcotin winds its way deeper into the canyons, which provide the perfect habitat for herds of California bighorn sheep.This area is a designated reserve for these sheep which number over 3000, so keep your camera to hand. You run the BIG rapids at Farwell Canyon, which are dwarfed, only by the dramatic towering “badlands” around us. Next you challenge Railroad, the largest rapid on the journey, deep beneath the granite walls of Big John Canyon.The Chilcotin then sweeps into the mighty Fraser River where you make the final evening’s camp on one of the fine, untouched sandy beaches.

Day 6: Friday

The final morning is spent floating on the Fraser through Gang Ranch, North America’s largest working ranch.Before noon, you arrive at Churn Creek, where a mini-bus waits to shuttle you back to Vancouver.
