Situated 1 1/2 hours drive from Jackson Hole, Wyoming this outfitter offers a 4 to 6 day wilderness trip to a base camp in Bear Basin. Camp trips are available from the first Saturday in July until mid September 2011. Enjoy the comforts of camp every night and explore the vast Washakie Wilderness during the day on mountain horses. The riding is superb and daily rides are deep into the wilderness to explore timbered canyons and high mountain passes up to 8,500 feet. You'll see elk, deer, moose and even an occasional bear. Great fishing is a 10 minute walk below camp in Bear Creek. With no more than 8 guests, the camp is very comfortable.
Hearty mountain cooking is prepared at the cook tent and enjoyed in the adjoining dining tent or around the campfire. Sleep in roomy guest tents supplied with a wood burning stove for heat, and cots and pads, or grab your sleeping bag and sleep under the stars.
Horses and riding every day. Cook & experienced guide. Wall tents with wood burning stoves for heat, lanterns, cots & pads, hot water shower, latrine tents.
A capped and piped spring flows right through camp offering great tasting drinking water right outside the dining tent. There is a hot shower is that extra luxury that will make all the difference.
We will spend our time riding through open meadows filled with purple Lupine, scarlet Indian Paintbrush and yellow Golden Eye. Get down from your horse for lunch on the trail and discover delicate Forget-Me-Nots, Harebells and many more flowers that will keep even the most casual botanist interested. Aspen groves scattered in among Douglas Fir and Lodge Pole Pine forests provide forage for moose and mule deer. Look for herds of elk with new-born calves basking in the sun on the wide open mountain tops while Rocky Mountain sheep dance among the rocky crags. Listen for and keep your eyes open for coyotes and wolves that move in shadows.
An afternoon hike along well marked trails can be a good break for anyone who would like a break from riding. Bear Creek is a stones throw from camp and gives the opportunity for fisherman to wet a line and catch a native Cutthroat for dinner. The creek is small enough that any first timer who would like to try fly-fishing would have a chance to hook a fish.
Custom dates can be arranged depending on availability. All meals and camping accommodation is provided (not sleeping bags). Table wine is provided; BYOB as well. Limited fishing gear is available to borrow, but if you have your own gear it is advised that you take it with you. You must provide you own flies.
