You can enjoy some of the best and most diverse horsebackriding in North America at the Bitterroot Ranch in Wyoming. Located in a remote valley bordering the Shoshone National Forest, 50 miles of unspoiled, mountainous wilderness separate the ranch from Yellowstone Park. Highly recommended for experienced riders who enjoy riding english style. Purebred Arabians and quarter horses are raised - 65 horses cater for all levels of riding ability, english and western style.
The ranch is geared to those who would like to improve their riding skills or, more particularly, those who already ride well. Bitterroot's main Lodge can accommodate up to 30 people in twelve charming cabins, each with private bathrooms and wood burning stoves. They are situated on either side of a trout filled stream for maximum seclusion. Guests gather in the main lodge for meals and relaxing evenings. The ranch is well known for its horses of which there are 130 to choose from. You will be allocated the horse that suits your ability. In addition, for smaller riders there are 5 ponies along with 30 broodmares plus assorted other horses.
At the ranch they breed their own Arabs and Percheron/Arab crosses. You will find Quarter Horses, Appaloosas and Morgans here too. There are some excellent fly fishing opportunities on the ranch and in nearby streams and lakes. They have two canoes which can be used on the lakes. The East Fork of the Wind River runs through the ranch for about a mile and holds many cutthroat trout. In late September there is a cattle round up lasting a week and guest may take part in this activity - full details are available on request.
Excellent flyfishing in their private stream and superior cuisine and wine contribute to a more sophisticated ambience than that at many dude ranches.
