This is a small self-sufficient Guest Ranch in north west Colorado. All the cabins are set close to a peaceful lake.

Coulter Lake is located three miles into the White River National Forest which is home to incredible natural beauty and abundant wildlife. Their ranch staff are focused on providing a unique experience that you will always remember.

They have excellent mountain horses and they will have the right horse for you whether you've ridden your whole life or it’s your first time up!

You can ride twice a day or as often or little as you like.

We have first-hand knowledge from our many ranch visits, so please  contact us with any questions or for a ranch holiday to suit you.

There are 6 cabins with 2 on the lake and 4 spread among the aspen trees but within an easy walk of the Lodge. The cabins were built between 1934 and 1950. They feature 1 to 3 bedrooms, a sitting area , a private bathroom with shower and a front porch with incredible views of the lake and mountains.

The cabins have electricity but no air conditioning which is seldom needed at 8100 feet.  They use solar panels and hydro to generate most of their electricity. Propane generators for back up. You are encouraged to use the power carefully.

Three meals each day are either served in the main Lodge or you may like to consider a breakfast or a dinner ride way from the buildings.

Their  guests are encouraged to conserve electricity and water, which helps them sustain the environment. With no cell phone service, e-mail, or television,   you can unwind from technology and focus on what is important.

Each guest is matched to one of the ranch’s  excellent mountain trail horses. Which horse depends on  based on your riding abilities and expectation during the stay. They reckon to have the right horse for you whether you've ridden your whole life or it’s your first time up! You can ride twice a day and as often or little as you like. Scenic walking rides, loping on most trails or take lessons to improve your skills. These are all options available to you.

With two trail rides each day you will be able to see the Colorado Rockies like no other way. Enjoy an all-day lunch ride going through valleys with beaver ponds and trout streams, a breakfast ride where you might spot mule deer in our meadows, or an evening cookout ride to Coulter Mesa.

Children must be six or older to go out on trail rides. All the kids get instruction whether in the arena area or while on the trail.

The lake provides everyone  with hours of fun. You can take out a kayak or canoe, swim to the platform to cool off or take on the stocked rainbow trout. There are other fishing opportunities in nearby streams with brook trout, mountain lakes or the superb trout rivers of the Colorado or Frying Pan Rivers.

Hiking enthusiasts can step out of their cabin and take off in any direction. Rifle Mountain Park offers a beautiful canyon trail along Rifle Creek.

There is also a nearby half day white water raft trip outfitter or you may prefer a round of golf at the nearby Rifle Creek Golf Course with its amazing nine holes located through the cliffs. Massages can be arranged at the spas in Glenwood, or a trip to Colorado's wineries and orchards in Palisades
